Scripture: John 1:19-24 in the AeP T21 Version "I am the voice of a crier in the desert"

"And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who are you? And he confessed, and did not deny, but said plainly, I am not Christ. And they asked him, What then? Are you Elijah? And he said, I am not. Are you a prophet? And he answered, No. Then they said to him, Who are you, so we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself? He said, I am the voice of a crier in the desert, Make straight the road of the Lord, as the prophet Isaiah said. And those who were sent were from the Pharisees."
