"Be careful of your charity, so that you not give it in front of others, with the intention that you be seen by them. Or else you will get no reward from your Father, who is in heaven. Whenever you give your charity, you will not blow a trumpet in front of you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so they will be praised by others. Truly, I say to you they have their reward. But when you do your charity, Do not let your left hand know what your right hand has done. So that your charity may be secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you openly. And when you pray, you should not be like the hypocrites are, because they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners, because they wish to be seen by others. Truly I say to you, They have their reward. But when you pray, enter into your closet, shut the door, and pray to your Father, who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you openly."

Matthew 11:7-15 in the Abbott ePublishing Tyndale21 Version of the Gospels
"And as they departed, Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John, What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swaying in the wind? But what went did you go out for to see? A man clothed in soft clothes? Look, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' palaces. But what did you go out there to see? A prophet? yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. For this is he of whom it is written, Look, I send my messenger in front of your face, who will prepare the way in front of you. Truly I say to you, Among those who are born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist: but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than him. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven allows violence, and the violent take it by force. For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied up until John. And if you will receive it, he is Elijah, who is to come. He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

"For this cause we also, since the day we heard of it, have not ceased praying for you, and desiring that you might be fulfilled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That you might walk worthy of the Lord in all things that please, being fruitful in all good works, and increasing in the knowledge of God."

Luke 6:46-49 in the Abbott ePublishing Tyndale21 Version
"And why do you call me, Master, Master, and do not do as I say? Whoever comes to me, hears my sayings, and does them, I will show you whom he is like. He is like a man who built a house, and he dug deep, and laid the foundation in rock. When the river burst, the floodwaters beat on that house but could not move it. Because it was grounded on rock. But he who hears, but does not act, is like a man who built a house in the dirt, without a foundation. Against which the flood beat against it, and it fell immediately. And the fall of that house was great."

Luke 1:26-37 in the Abbott ePublishing Tyndale21 Version
"And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And the angel came in to her, and entering, said, Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women. And when she saw him, she was very troubled at his words, and threw thoughts around in her mind about what kind of greeting this was. And the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary: because you have found favor with God. And, Look, you will conceive in your womb, and give birth to a son, and will call his name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, And he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; and there will be no end to his kingdom. Then said Mary to the angel , How will this be, since I have not been with a man? And the angel answered her, The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you, therefore also that holy thing which will be born of you will be called the Son of God. And, Look, your cousin Elisabeth, she has also conceived a son in her old age. And this is the sixth month, although she was called sterile. For with God, nothing can be impossible."
